About Dr. Tong
Dr. Patrick Tong is a specialist in Pediatric Ophthalmology. He served as a full-time faculty member at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University from 1995 to 2007. Board certified in 1995, he was recertified with the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2006, which expired in 2016. He has been on staff at Howard County General Hospital since 2004.
After attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he was a Medical Scientist Training Program awardee at Washington University in St. Louis, where he received simultaneous MD and PhD degrees. He studied lysosomal storage disease, a devastating inherited illness affecting many organs, including the eye.
After his pediatric ophthalmology training at the Children’s National Medical Center, he was awarded the Physician Scientist Award by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health. He completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis and his internship at Barnes Hospital, during which he received the Leadership Award from the American Medical Association. He was a research fellow at the National Children’s Eye Care Foundation.
Blending intellect, compassion, and skill, Dr. Tong provides comprehensive eye care for your child, ranging from routine eye care to surgical treatment. Adults with eye misalignment, double vision, or thyroid disease also seek care with Dr. Tong. He has a special interest in hereditary eye diseases, including Marfan’s Syndrome, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and Lysosomal Storage Diseases.
The office is located in an office park near the intersection of Broken Land Parkway and Snowden River Parkway.
From I-95: take exit 38B to route 32 West. Take the first exit which is Broken Land Parkway. At the first light, turn right onto Snowden River Parkway. Immediately take the left-most lane in preparation for turning left at the first light onto Minstrel Way. At the end of the cul-de-sac, the right-most driveway will lead to 7120 Minstrel Way, a red-brick 2-story office building. Suite 110 is the first door on the left directly from the lobby.
From Rt. 29: take exit 18 to Broken Lane Parkway. Turn towards Owen Brown (not Hickory Ridge). After 2 miles, turn left onto Snowden River Parkway. At the next light, turn left onto Minstrel Way. At the end of the cul-de-sac, the right-most driveway will lead to 7120 Minstrel Way, a red-brick 2-story office building. Suite 110 is the first door on the left directly from the lobby.
